Indonesian batik

batik is a technique of wax-resist dyeing applied to whole cloth, or cloth made using this technique. Batik Tulis is made by drawing dots and lines of the resist with a spouted tool called canting tulis.
and batik cap is made by stamp made from cooper with motif/pattern on it.

for indonesia, actually batik is not only a craft, its also a culture, a culture inherited from ancestor. And in October 2009, UNESCO designated indonesian batik as a Masterpiece of oral and intangible heritage of humanity.

making a batik throung several step, including nyanting, nyelup, and ngelorod. if batik used a natural dyeing is also need a more step to make the natural dye.

batik on the picture is a batik tulis used natural dye, thats used indigofera tictoria. the step on making a dye with indigofera is different from the other natural dye. indigofera is have a special method, its use fermentation to make a pasta, and then those pasta is used to dyeing the batik. making batik with natural dye is take a long time.

present time, batik is almost extinct because of technology, the tecnology used for batik is also polluting the environment especially the river. that reason is the main idea for me to used natural dye to make a batik, not only me, but also many of batik stakeholder now on used a natural dye to batik.
